Ottawa-Gatineau most livable community in Canada

Hat tip to my friend Doug via Facebook for the link on this one. Ottawa-Gatineau most livable community in Canada, says MoneySense magazine This definitely makes me feel good about my choice to live in a city I’ve never been too. Only 2 months until my 1 week visit this July.

The Toronto-based personal finance publication says its study of 179 Canadian cities of more than 10,000 people ranks the country’s capital and its nearby suburb top on the list for livability.

household incomes, housing prices, jobs and local health and social services factored into the evaluation, Sarah Efron, the magazine’s managing editor, said in an interview Thursday.

Korean Mask

Today I met a client for dinner to talk about their site that I just completed work on. If your interested check out Seoul Selection This is the same client that gave me tickets to Nanta.

On the way to meet them I stopped in Insa Dong, an area well known for traditional products and very popular with tourists and expats. While there I bought myself a mask. There are so many different kinds of masks but this is one of my favorites. I’ll probably be buying a few more of these before I return to Canada next year.

Bad Traffic

Someone posted this to facebook and I thought I’d share it here. This traffic is definitely very very common. I’ve been shooting little clips of many drivers running through red lights (something I see about 3-10 times every day I drive) and will eventually post up a video of that as well.

Car Rental and Room Reservation

Today I reserved my room at the University of Ottawa residence for my trip in July. After making the reservation, I didn’t get any confirmation email so I’m not sure exactly what has happened. In any case I sent an email to the person I talked to in March about the reservation so I’m sure it’ll be straitened out right away.

I also reserved my car rental. This trip is really happening and time is starting to accelerate on this plan to move back home in Summer 2011. I rented from Avis as I got the best deal there – about $80 cheaper than Budget. There were a couple of other rental options, but I hadn’t heard of these companies and since they were only $10-$15 cheaper I figured going with Avis was the smart choice.

I land in Toronto on July 4th at 9:30 and will be staying in a hotel that night (not yet reserved) and then flying to Ottawa the next morning arriving at 11:10. I’ll be in Ottawa until Saturday when I return my car rental and make my way out to Sudbury to visit a friend for a couple of days before heading to Toronto on Monday. We’ll spend the day in Toronto and then I’ll get to the airport some time after 7 or 8pm in time to catch an 11:50 flight back to Seoul. It’ll be a short but busy trip.
